Genre Research: It Chapter Two (2019)

Angles

Some angles in the movie include a lot of over-the-shoulder shots, high shots, wide shots, flashbacks, and tracking shots.

Costume

There were no significant costumes in the movie other than the clown costume and bloody dress worn by Bill's wife in the beginning. The other clothes were casual clothing such as jeans and t-shirts or formal clothing such as suits.

Lighting

For the most part, the movie has normal lighting. It gets dark under the bleachers at the baseball game, at the hospital when the nurse is stabbed, at the hotel, when they are in the sewer and when it is nighttime.

Actors

The main actors include Beverly Marsh played by Sophia Lillis and Jesica Chastain, Bill Denbrough played by Jaeden Lieberher and James McAvoy, Richie Tozier played by Finn Wolfhard and Bill Hader, Eddie Kaspbrak played by Jack Dylan Grazer and James Ransone, Stanley Uris played by Wyatt Oleff and Andy Bean, Ben Hanscom played by Jeremy Ray Taylor and Jay Ryan, Mike Hanlon played by Chosen Jacobs and Isaiah Mustafa, and Pennywise played by Bill Skarsgard.

Makeup

The most significant makeup look in the movie is Pennywise's clown makeup look. The other looks were mostly natural.

Props

Props include red balloons, cell phones, flashlights, medication bottles, missing posters, asthma pumps, walkie-talkies, and weapons such as guns and knives.

Setting

Chapter Two takes place in Derry, Maine.

Sound

Sounds include eerie music, screams, and dialogue between the characters.

Editing

An example of great editing in the film is when Ben falls into the clubhouse bunker and calls them to come down. When Beverly begins to climb down the ladder, it switches from the present to the past when they were kids and first entered the bunker.

Conventions

This movie includes all the traditional elements of a horror movie. The suspenseful music, the vintage lighting, the various angles, the fake blood, the screaming, and most importantly, the overwhelming sense of fear that everyone has.

Liked

We liked that you can tell that this is a horror movie throughout the whole thing. The movie immediately begins at nighttime, so it is dark out, and then it's not long before Pennywise arrives to kill someone. We liked the different suspenseful music that the movie presents. It gives us an idea of what we can use in our movie.

Disliked

We didn't like how heavily flashbacks were used in this movie. Yes, it is nice to get a recap of what happened in the previous film or even learn new things about all the characters' past, but having so many flashbacks throughout the whole movie was a little overwhelming.
